When reading 50 Shades, I felt as though the author had no clue what it was like to be in the Kink Community. She created a character with control issues, mommy issues, and a massive overprotectiveness complex, and romanticized him into a dark Prince Charming. Ms. De Soto has not done that. She's taken a Peter and Kat and written them together in a way that can make you identify with each character on their own, and desperate to read more about the scenes between the two of them. She writes as a true Kinkster, knowing the inner workings of the community, showing it for what it is, and not creating some fantasy world that doesn't exist. This is a great educational read for those in the community, and those who are interested, but just as inexperienced as Kat. This was an amazing read. Kat & Peter come off the pages, and the writing is superb. Definitely worth the buy!
This book was excellently written by someone who knows and understands the true nature of what it is to be kinky. A great read and I recommend it to any wishing to explore their kinky side. -IMInfinity
I typically don't read a lot of erotica, but I couldn't put this story down. It was filled with dialogue that felt real, like conversations I've had with people in the moment when no one knows what will happen next, but we both want to find out. It was also very hot to read. The authors description of pain and pleasure together, and her delving into many aspects of S&M, kink, relationships and sensuality are vivid. The final scene is both provocative, tender and the perfect climax to the story (no pun intended).
Despite it being yet one more story about a young woman with submissive/masochistic leanings exploring total power exchange as a lifestyle, Sonni de Sotto's The Taming School is the most literate BDSM-themed erotic book that I have read in a very long time. Two refreshing aspects of this book are that the main characters are not stereotypes with predictable motivations, nor are they idealized physical specimens. In part because she has never encountered a man interested in nurturing her submissive side, Kat is still a virgin at 25. She sets out to shed that albatross and fulfill her desire to be sexually dominated by posting what amounts to a personal ad on a BDSM forum where she's been lurking for a while. While she does get some responses, albeit not altogether satisfactory ones, before long the moderator of the forum yanks her post and essentially banishes her from the site. Peter's motivation for doing this is two-fold he doesn't like the corrupting affect the inappropriate post is having on his collegial forum; and he is concerned that Kat's naiveté will put her at grave risk.
After having screwed up the courage to pursue her destiny, Kat doesn't just give up and go away. She contacts Peter and eventually convinces him to help her achieve her goal as a mentor/master. Whereas the BDSM elements of that process aren't particularly hardcore, they are fairly intense and uniquely sensual and erotic. There are, of course, a few twists and turns in the plot and some angst on both sides of the relationship as the story unfolds. Ultimately the intimate nature of their liaison triggers unintended emotional bonds between them and it appears that they are on track to be kinky lovers for the foreseeable future as the story comes to a close.
An interesting feature of The Taming School is that it reads like mainstream fiction that just happens to be erotic and deal with BDSM themes. It really isn't necessary for readers to be conversant in BDSM terminology or concepts in order to follow and enjoy the story and the significance of its conflict. This isn't a pure genre book geared toward a select audience.

This novel was an amazing read! It had me on the tips of my toes at points, and curling them at other points!! A must-read for any kinkster!

I liked this book. I liked your characters. I like how you made them sound like actual, physical people, with cares and worries and friends. I think that you did a very good job showing Kat's slow transformation from someone who knows absolutely nothing about BDSM to someone who's pretty comfortable with it, in the end. That's where I come to something I didn't like the ending. I felt like you cut the story off a little too soon. That's not to say you didn't cut off at a good point, I just felt like that good point came a little too soon for my tastes. I think you could have gone another hundred pages at least, and still been in a good place to stop.
Other than that, there's not much else to say. There were a few grammatical errors that stuck out (mostly your/you're confusions). However, they didn't distract from the story at all, which is a testament to your storytelling ability. I was hooked throughout Kat and Peter's tale, and I'll definitely be waiting for more from you.

This is one of the few erotica novels that takes the little things into account--like reality. When done right, realistic characters and relationships are very hot--and let me tell you, this book is HOT.
The plot is a familiar one--the virgin female is looking to lose that status and maybe find love along the way--only in this book she does so without engaging in behavior that would get a normal person killed. The female lead does not pass out drunk and then wakes up pantsless in a hotel room with beige everywhere. Instead, she has an adult conversation with her potential dom before they engage in hot and sexy playtime.
The dialog is thoughtful and realistic. There are no inner goddesses doing the dance of the seven veils. Instead we have two responsible adults going on a journey together (and that journey involves lots of hot, hot sex).
I will recommend this book to all my friends who liked 50 Shades of Grey. Taming School hits upon a lot of the same themes, only the reader isn't left with the burning desire to strangle the female lead.
This book had me screaming "green" by the end. If 50 Shades left you cold, you should try this one.
